Update: 2020 VEX Robotics World Championship is Canceled

That would be cool, but I actually hope not. I think I need a break after this emotional event.

No, worlds shouldnt be online. Just irl. I want to see actually teams actually saying stuff on the spot. Not scripted interviews and skills.

I also feel attacked, especially because he attended my competition. I was too nervous to go say hi in person. If you see this, hi Dan! (It was the competition in new mexico)

Anyways, since the season is over, leekz:
I have made adjustments since photos, so dont be alarmed at sketchiness

I have spent at least 1000 hours programming, driving, and building our robot, and then this. I feel absolutely torn in half. I feel like a huge chunk of my soul has been ripped right out of me. So sad

i think every teams has spent that many hours on robots. Just get em next year and for VEX U get em as well.

Dang. We found out our states in California were canceled, but we were high enough in skills, so we start our worlds build, and then get hit with this 2 hours later

@DanMantz Can next seasons game be released early?

To anybody else, don’t bother asking abt when the next game is gonna be released. Yes, this is hypocritical, but I think the RECF just made this decision and told us as soon as possible (considering the last big announcement abt worlds was only a day or two ago). Give it some time. Worlds is most likely going to be the same day it normally is so if the game isn’t released early, we’ll have the regular amount of time to do what thousands of teams do every year

@DanMantz Thank you for serving the community well. I have to commend you for handling these difficult situations, instead of backing away. This is my 7th year and final year in VRC, and I hate to see it end like this. I am so glad I had the opportunity watch my fellow seniors grow into talented engineers. I hope the teams with seasons ahead of them can take this moment to realize there is more to VEX than just the trophies and banners. VEX is an opportunity to develop the skills you are interested in, along-side those who share a similar passion. I will always treasure all my VEX memories, and try my best to stay involved in the community

I would like to thank all of the people at the Rec Foundation, Vex Robotics, The State of Kentucky, and the CDC, for making a decision. I know this is going to be tough for both the competitors and the people running the events. My team was not qualified for worlds but my heart still goes out to those who were going to worlds but are now unfortunately unable to. This being my third year and Vex, and first being actually successful, I have learned a lot about vex. This taught me that it’s not at all about the competitions. Vex is about the experiences and skills you learned as you build and develop your team. The competitions are here just as a fun way to show off what you learned. But the main focus should be on working as a team, prepare us for possible future jobs in stem, and enjoying engineering and building a robot. I want to thank everyone for a great season, our team will not be the same next year but it was a great year. Once again thank you Dan and the Rec foundation for making a decision.

Will the CREATE US Open tournament be cancelled as well, considering it’s only a few weeks away?

First of all, to Dan and the rest of the community, I want to thank you for remaining civil. That is, unfortunately, not a common experience these days and the civility of the discussion is commendable.

To Dan in particular, I would like to thank you for being involved with the community and taking the time to interact on a personal level with the competitors present on this forum instead of just making unguided decisions. As a very active member of the Stack Exchange community who has witnessed a community disaster unfold there in the past few months, I have come to truly appreciate the fact that you are engaged with the community here.

While unfortunate, the decision was probably right. I would like to ask whether any further online challenges may be created. While we can’t attend a competition in person, is it possible to create a virtual one? What about programming challenges? I wrote almost 2000 lines of code to operate a wall-bot this season and would absolutely love to be able to enter it in a competition. Can we do as others here have suggested and upload videos of our robots for a chance to win awards of some kind?

Status update on CREATE Open
USO-Status Update

Double rip.

so us open is going to be rescheduled?

Please read the update, it specifically says.

It will not be possible to reschedule the event. Logistically and financially this is not possible.

In the document from CREATE it says

This is indeed a sad end to a wonderful event and program.

Just to clarify, is this for the season, or the program forever?
