Look guys, for those who are down, don’t let it get to you. Don’t let this be the thing that holds you back, but instead use it to your advantage. Redesign parts of your bot, make things better then you thought you could. Take advantage of the time and learn for the next year. For seniors, It’s tough, trust me I know as I am one and have done this for seven years, and it’s heartbreaking, but you still could do VEXU . You were already going to work on your bot till May(ish) anyway, so still do that, learn from it. Learn to code odometry to a T, learn the best way to build an arm to make it most efficient. Just cause there’s no competition doesn’t mean you have to stop, that’s not what VEX is about. It’s been good, this was a fun game. Looking forward to seeing what the future has in games.
Well said. I am a senior this year, and was hoping to at least watch worlds if I didn’t qualify. At least Nationals isn’t canceled yet, but I expect them to cancel within the next week or so.
was it possible for you guys to postpone worlds instead?
Thank you to Dan, Brad, Tony, and everyone else at the RECF and VEX who were involved in this tough decision. VEX Worlds has been a huge part of my life for over a decade, and I understand how much it means to both the organizers and the participants. But VEX Worlds has always been more than a competition or a venue or a grouping of robots. VEX Worlds has been the culmination of a season of hard work, dreams, and achievements of tens of thousands of participants from all over the globe. Yes, the event isn’t happening, but that doesn’t nullify everything else. My heart aches for everyone who is going to miss out on this opportunity, but I know with full certainty this is the right decision. VEX Worlds will live on in spirit, and will be back for what will certainly be the best one yet in 2021.

While it is a disappointment for our team as this was the first time that a team from my school had qualified for worlds, this decision is the right one.
Travelling from New Zealand to Louisville to meet all of the other teams, people and robots would have been amazing. The risk to others was simply too great. Yes my students would probably be ok if the got Covid-19 but what about their friends and family who are at risk. It’s not just the getting sick, that’s a problem what happens if the airlines cancel your flights or you get quarantined (NZ insurance won’t cover it). There were just too many risks.
We’re looking forward to getting onto the new build when it’s released and competing in a New Zealand Kiwibots Challenge (autonomous only) in the meantime.

Just finished taking my robot apart. It has been a great season, and it is sad to see it go.

This was a fantastic game; the first year my team really bonded, had fun, won a tournament, and qualified for worlds. I’m terribly sad that it is over, I loved that robot and competing with it. I can only imagine how hard a decision this was, and although this is heartbreaking I do understand. I guess we juts have to work hard again next year and hope that maybe we can make worlds next year. I do look forward to seeing the new game and getting ready for next season.
