What controller setting’s do you use?

As we know there are multiple different controller settings these include, Tank style, arcade style, and 1 joystick. Which one do you use and I personal like arcade.

Easily arcade, but I wish VEX would release a game that rewarded holonomic drives (which would be fun to code/drive)

This thread has a poll.

I used tank last year. It felt more intuitive to me. I will let it be up to our new driver this year, but he says he wants tank.

I perfer tank drive as it allows for a wider range of control

What do you mean by that? I use an H-drive and I still can build a competitive robot.

Our team uses the arcade style as we are very used to it and are able to move and navigate our robot very quickly during competitions. We tried using tank style and 1 joystick mode but they were hard to learn quickly so most of our team mates gave up trying to use it.

I get h-drives, but they have their own issues if you build it right. They have substantially less defense (applies to most omnis) and the past few games have been more about speed, rather than maneuverability.

This is IQ, not V5RC.

in that case, it’s actually comp. my bad

If you don’t use tank drive your messed up.

I like tank drive because it offers the most control for me.

I have personally used tank drive with toggles on the joystick (best) or alternatively the small buttons at the bottom. Any active things like an intake were the triggers for ease of use. Also if you want simplicity making an automation code for something like a catapult can save you lots of time and save you in a match. The main goal we had was to reduce the amount of inputs which in the end helped us a lot.

Check this out. They have an impressive H drive. The autonomous and driving match in YouTube video is very good.

Yeah, that’s a really well put together video and tutorial. Our team has gone with an H-Drive this season (at least thus far). The team programmed the left and right movement using the L-Up and R-Up buttons as its the most natural orientation for your index fingers while your thumbs to the main driving on the joysticks.

The team opted for the H-Drive as it allows for easy staffing left and right to get to the two sets of goals while the other team focuses on retrieving and passing the balls to our bot. It also helps make autonomous easier as you don’t have to fuss with coding “turning” with our bot as that can start with the robot’s side touching the wall in the starting zone (assuming you’re bot isn’t more than 23" long). For Driving Skills it’s just easier to not have to do as much turning and worrying about over turning or overcorrecting.

NOTE: This is all in regards to VEX IQ Rapid Relay.
