During a tournament to qualify to state my team was in semis and winning. Our alliance member was balanced and had several goals. During the last 5 seconds we attempt to add a mobile goal to the platform to outscore the opposing team and it unbalanced and fell during the last second. However the thing we didnât realize is that we didnât need that extra mobile goal and if we stayed still we would have gone to finals and qualified to states due to finalists automatically qualifying for states. There were just so many possible actions we could have done in those last 5 seconds my team Frequently talked about. Like for example our arm is so tall we could have put a mogo ontop of our teammate and the platform would have balanced. But the fact that we could have put our controller down and we would have qualified for states is just so annoying.

If their robot hadnât moved from the start of the match (the brain was unplugged from the start of the match, it didnât become unplugged during the match) they would have been allowed to plug the battery in in the middle of the match via rule G9a.

they had already moved a bit to the centre of the field. although after the fact, the judges said that the team could have grabbed and reset their bot mid-match though, so I donât know whatâs up with that one.
two clarifications - judges read notebooks and interview teams, referees apply rules of the game. Second point, If the robot moved to center of field, then they must definitely can not plug battery back in. If the robot did not move during autonomous period, then they could plug battery back in and get brain set to proper program. This is documented in the Game Manual.

my team always loses in quarterfinals, we are even worse⌠so frustrating.
Three of our middle school teams were finalists nine times this season - never a champion. Some even eliminating HS teams at blended events but still finalists.
We had a cracked gear in our drivetrain in ALL of our qualification matches at regionals. It wasnât anything big, and it wasnât a visible crack. It caused one wheel to not turn with the axle, and we lost a little bit of power from that, causing us to not be able to climb. Oh, and then we lost in quarterfinals and didnât qualify to worlds.
And this, is why you use high strength gears.

So, this isnât neccessarily something that made me mad, but it was pretty shocking.
So during our state tournament, in one of the qualification matches, I saw a robot chassis dismantle into 2 pieces during the middle of a match. I donât think that was intended, probably some other issue.

Lost 3rd finals match at states because the opposing team lifted my alliance partner off the ground, in the process ripping apart the left side of their drivetrain, we were unable to double park for the win because of itâŚ
At the Wisconsin State Tournament, we had told a team beforehand that we wanted to push balls to them so that they could fling 'em into the high goal since we had a push bot. But, when the match started, they only flung 2 balls and then didnât fling anymore the rest of the match, which knocked us down from 16th to 28th.
At states, our alliance from last tournament was a part of our table. We made an effort to talk to them, and really tried to emphasize âwhen your robot broke, we did a 2v1 against Nova bots and lost by 20 pointsâ. For those not in south Florida, nova is on top basically. So they said âyeah youâre one of our top choices man, if the #1 spot doesnât pick us we willâ. He tried to make alliances with 5 people and the only one who didnât decline was the one who wanted to go with us as well. So the only two teams who were interested in us were gone and we ended up with a team with a bad driver. Tbh though it wasnât just the allyâs fault we lost, we all played a pretty good game, I didnât make an auton to go for the middle goal though and I think that cost us the game. Also we severely underestimated speed ratios.
We missed balancing the platform by about 1 degree of a spin of a wheel when we ran out of time. That climb wouldâve qualified us to worlds but it ended our season.
