Mecanum drives allow you to realign with the walls during programming skills/auton when necessary.
600 rpm 2 motor passive Goliath intake drive base
y’all are weak. I’m using sprockets as wheels.
When you realize 7700R actually did use sprockets as wheels and it might not be as bad of an idea as you initially thought
When did this happen? And do you have pictures?
Tower takeover robot explanation
It was a 30T sprocket with a traction wheel’s tire stretched over it. The same method was used on goofy from last year.
5:3 on 200 rpm is 333 rpm not 270
your correct, but he means in respect to 4” wheels. 333* (3.25/4) ≈ 270 rpm. with that said, please no one compare speeds like this anymore. it’s bad practice and a very silly way to compare speeds imo. drivetrain numbers should be based off of linear velocity (as opposed to angular velocity) cuz linear is what we’re actually trying to compare in this scenario. just say the wheels are moving at 4.71 ft/s. so much easier and way less confusing
I think it would just be easier to say the rpm and the wheel diameter. That would be easiest
I mean really we should talk about drive speeds in terms of feet per second, but everyone already uses the rpm equivalent to 4" wheels, which isn’t great but its not likely to change.
Depends on your focus imo:
- I would say x drive is best for programing skills and auton in general as it gives you a certain mobility that you cannot obtain with tank. But x is only viable if you really focus in on skills and make it your priority.
- For matches I think geared up bling drive (6 wheels, middle locked) is best as you can garantee you will be able to handle whatever defenses are thrown at you and potentially play defense if neccessary.
- Mecanum and H are both not viable imo; mech is too slow and bulky, and H has a strange motor distrubtion as you are stuck with either 3 or 5 when 4 really is the optimal number for your base
My team is building an X-drive, but it is kinda-hard to make the snail-bot design work with it.
Yeah spacing and general configuration gets more complex with an X. Intakes are a pain and ball clearance is also a bit trickier. But if done right, it can be worth the hassle.
that’s fine too but if someone only say rpm theyre off my team ![]()
depending on your programming ability, an x drive may or may not be better than a tank for this game.
skills is going to be the most important (and in many cases, the only) competition this year, and so defense isn’t really a concern. this means you should be pushing your maneuverability as far as you can without loosing precise control in both driving skill and programming ability. If you can take full advantage of an x drive’s strafing for skills to save time, then it’s definitely worth it. But if you can’t, than I’d say stick with tank.
regardless of your drive type, you should probably be speeding up your drive to as fast as you can handle. with the smaller robots, lighter game objects, more open field, and lack of defense this year makes me think we’ll see drives faster than ever before.
one question on this: lack of defense because no D in skills, or because you think match play will not involve much defense? Or both?
I just hope soon that vex makes new mechs because they can be really good but the ones in vex are just big, clunky, and slow.
skills. from the actual matches we’ve seen so far (the new zealand scrim ones)
it looks like actual matches would be very defensive, but that’s not a worry if you’re not going to compete in actual matches, which at least for a while nobody in the US will be doing.
