Whats Worlds Like?

It is my team’s first time going to worlds, and we have so many questions. How do teams transport their robots? Plane? Shipping? How do you decorate pits? Candy? Bracelets? Stickers? What do people wear? Plan clothes? Custom Shirts? Random Costumes? Custom jackets? Custom Hats? IDK? Do you have any downtime? How do fundraise? Door-to-Door? Gift Gards? Ask for money? I would love some help, to have my teams get to VEX IQ 2022 Worlds Pitching In!

Good ideas. You might want to check places like https://www.orientaltrading.com for things to trade / give away.

Shipping the robot can be done two ways.

  1. Take it with you on the plane. You’ll need to find a box / container to ship it in. Lots of teams love the Robosource box for @$250 and shipping to you. You’ll end up paying an additional bag fee to get it aboard depending on your airline.

  2. Ship it via UPS / FedEx / DHL. You’ll need some kind of container again. For my team I have a 20" cube FedEx box that fits inside a double wall 24" box. Wrap robot in bubble wrap, inner box in bubble wrap and ship. About 3 days from Delaware to Dallas for ~$80. Boxes and bubble wrap about $35. So a much cheaper way and I’ve done this setup a few times.

(Can you keep posting your questions in this thread please)

Any idea if HS teams will be allowed to attend the VRC Game Reveal on Thursday 5th?
or is there a capacity issue in the arena?

Hi BotMasters welcome to the forum.

We suggest that people do a search of topics before starting a new one. This thread should have everything you want it in. If not, post in that thread and someone will post a response.

@drow any possibility to pin for All the topics concerning Worlds to Whats Worlds Like? even if read…

Would forever pin other topics - but this for next couple months … when new game announced - pin a few common topics …

thanks!

For what it’s worth, the what’s worlds like thread is categorized as a vrc topic, while this is iq.

Most are same questions. robot is robot. one pint size, and other snack size.

Hi BotMasters!

Transporting your robots, a plane is faster! Make sure you take lots of photos of your robot just in case it breaks.

With decorating pits, bring some of your countries swag to show off! Decorate with balloons or items that relate to your team, make it colourful and fun! If you can make badges or stickers to give to other teams so they remember you!

With clothing, you really can wear anything, Its a good idea to get together a team shirt or outfit! Having costumes is also an option if they are related to your team or robotics!

You will get opportunities to have downtime at vex worlds! There is only about 10 qualifying matches over the 3 days, so you will get plenty of downtime.

With fundraising, if your team is apart of a club or school organisation, apply for grants. Community groups/local governments love to see teams representing their city/country!

Hope this helped

Would be more helpful if all responses to going to Worlds Iq and Vrc were in one place. Hence the push to keep Worlds logistics (which 99% is cross platform to one topic) in one place … and avoid repeated topics about venue/transport/… etc.

Thx. I was wondering how do you think we should take are robot through the airport?

One large suitcase is best! Obviously dont take your robot as hand luggage!
And remember, take lots of photos just in case your robot breaks.

Do you have a link to a good one?

Does anyone have more pictures? I’d love to see more pictures of the set up. 1st timer here!!

You will find many pictures from previous events here. (although I don’t see 2019)

How many stickers/bracelets are you planning on giving to each student for trade bait?

sorry, this is my first time going to worlds so does anyone know how divisions work. How do you know what division you are in. Thank you

Divisions are created on an alphanumeric basis (to separate sister teams), The final distribution of teams to divisions happens after inspections.
