No, the Hero Bot is made out of the same kit, every year.
It is honestly one of the hardest parts about designing the Hero Bot. The kit is meant to be entry-level, it doesn’t contain many parts, and the parts that it does contain are not any of the parts that enable some of the more advanced building techniques many teams utilize.
Additionally, we place a constraint on ourselves that parts in the kit cannot be modified in any way in order to construct the Hero Bot.
This is all in an attempt to make building a VEX V5 robot to compete in any give game as accessible as we possibly can.
Full Disclosure:
One of the main reasons for the delay this year was that upon review of the design after Worlds, we found there were parts used in the build that either:
A) Did not come in the Competition Starter Kit
or
B) We used too many compared to the QTY in the kit.
We had to quickly scramble to redesign the robot and completely re-start the instructions process.
As frustrating as this realization was, it brought to light some weaknesses in the way we design and build our hero bots that we are hoping to be able to work around better next year.
It all starts with not allowing the Hero Bot to be built right next to a wall of every single VEX V5 or VEX IQ part ever made. ![]()
