Ok, now that I look on robot events China has plenty Robot Events.
I was thinking they had like maybe 50 high caliber teams. But no, with around 500 total teams a good 80 medium caliber teams will be easy pickings.
There was supposed to be one this year but the government was shutdown until too late to have it so they did “Night at the Museum” at the expo center down the road. I suspect they’ll shoot to have it at the Udvar-Hazy center in 2020.
That is correct. It’s planned to be actually be at the Udvar-Hazy center this year.
Hopefully this time no gov’t shutdown.

I would like to start with I have almost no bias to where to hold worlds, I am from Hawaii and either way I would have to catch a flight if I qualified, but if you just looking at the United States as a whole, the center median population is in Missouri so in that case St. Louis is a easier choice, but it’s not that simple although vex is a primarily USA driven sport, China has a huge presence in vex, so we have to consider their presence too, not quiet equal to the USA, it would put worlds in the Pacific Ocean. So it’s now around the the Rockies, some of the largest airports are located in Utah and Denver, from there we have to consider venue. While salt lakes convention center is half of Louisville’s, Denver’s is almost double from what I have researched. While Denver might not have attractions like Disney land and universal, it does offer somewhat cheaper hotels, a larger venue, estimated center of most teams, making it to me the best replacement.
Center of all teams sounds good in theory, but I think we can agree that the best location would be the location that puts the most amount of teams in driving distance of the event.

The west coast would not be Ideal as there is a much higher concentration of teams on the east coast. From this map an Ideal location would be around Tennessee/North Carolina. I’m not sure about convention center availability, but Alabama honestly doesn’t look too shabby. A good Alabama location would allow upwards of 9000 teams the ability to drive to worlds.
Now if you look at this more detailed map our Alabama location isn’t lookin’ too hot
It seems that a southern Kentucky/northern Tennessee location would be great. As this allows maybe (optimistic) 8000 teams the ability to drive to worlds in addition to some bold Texas and southern Florida teams willing to make the drive.
So in essence, this reaffirms the benefits of Louisville based on distribution.
The SE corner of the USA is probably the safest bet.
Atlanta would also be a good option for VEX Worlds as well.
This is basically the same problem that shipping companies face in deciding where to build logistics centers (UPS’s global air hub is also in Louisville, less than a mile from the KEC - that’s not by accident). The goal is to optimize average travel time, not just geographic centrality, so population density is an important factor. The eastern US is much more densely populated than the west, so these centers tend to be on the eastern edge of the midwest.

I’d love Worlds to be in Alabama because probably our best expo center (the Von Braun Center) is only a 30 minute drive from me. I’m not sure if it could handle the amount of teams Worlds brings and I highly doubt there is enough hotel space in the area.
I’d agree with Atlanta but the traffic when it isn’t worlds is bad enough if I’m being completely honest. I could be completely wrong though.

Why don’t we do it somewhere in hawaii? Worlds could be hosted in an inactive volcano and we could go surfing with robotic surfboards after it ends…
yeah…no
Chicago may be a good option (granted that my team is from here xd) But we have an international airport for everyone to come through but hotels may be expensive… But we do have a lot of convention centers 
And for tourism well museums, downtown, and etc can be exciting for those who haven’t come here before
Let’s do it in Antarctica. That’s a good idea.
Or why not the north pole? We could rent santa’s mansion and go polar bear riding afterwards.
