2022 - 2023 VEX Robotics Competition - Spin Up

  1. The question of which tiles a robot is “on” in the endgame will probably reach insane levels of pedanticness and hamfisted interpretation/revision, similar to SG3 in Tipping Point.

  2. The fate of the meta rests almost entirely on whether or not you can enter the low scoring zones. If they’re no-go zones like I suspect, better get those flywheels spinning.

  3. On the upside, rushing and torque bots will almost certainly no longer be meta. Your motors and battery can rest easy knowing that the meta design will no longer consist of a flaming-hot geared-up six motor drive. Assuming the pneumatics penalty stays dead, this would also mean that 4 or even 6 non-drive motors will be available to teams, which will definitely enable some creative designs for intakes/turrets and the like.

  4. The rollers are 110% a plot to sell more vision and optical sensors.

to be honest, the tile mechanic is interesting to me. Does it only count if your robot is touching the tiles? or when theyre just above them? that alone is gonna give a lot of points to teams, especially in the early season before people figure out punchers/ flywheels/ claws, etc

sigh
I wish I could disagree, but I can’t.

I’m not sure about this, at least for high-level teams, launching from a distance will probably save large amounts of time in driving back and forth to pick up disks and deposit them. Additionally, the goal is on the Opposite side of where you start, so you will need a flywheel or something similar if you even want a chance at AWP or scoring frisbees during auton.

Pneumatics also seem pretty dead for this game. Maybe just for scoring rollers? Other than that I can’t really see a massive use for them this year

Two words: Endgame expansion…

Will we be able to drive over to discs we missed and re-intake and shoot them? Obviously they haven’t announced the full rules but I’m just asking in case they mentioned it anywhere during the reveal and I missed it.

I don’t mind the idea of not entering your opponents goal area, but you can enter your own.

If your opponent misses a target, you can pick it up and shoot it back to yours. That would also allow for ‘infinite’ disks (unless they are all scored).

IT WAS HE, HE WAS THE ONE

I wonder if the frisbee golf baskets are as good for storing ranch as the ones on Purdue’s campus.

Hello, does anybody know how high up are the rollers on the new field?
Thanks for your time!!

I like that a lot. It’s going to be a great vehicle for teaching discovery and planning processes. Lots of clear demands and opportunities to motivate a bit of discipline in exploring them.
Oop, mentoring reflex:
Read the advice available online and start a notebook. The next version of you as an engineer is just beyond what you can properly conceptualize right now. Writing down what you’ve thought and done in a way that enables someone else to proceed without you present is absolutely key to being a functional engineer in the real world.
Learning to do that is work. Writing stuff down saves you time overall. At least keep a journal that details specifics of what you did and why. You’ll be glad that you had a photo and a note of the hole positions of the previous version of the manipulator.

Seemed that the Chinese version manual is leaked…about eight hours ago, on the chinese forum

Good point

20 charac

Well I think I can do more translation if anyone needs, before DRow or someone is here

Is this legal according to the manual?

I think so
200000 char

They should definitely change it right away to only tiles that you’re touching.

You should only get points for tiles you’re touching at the end of the match.

In terms of things that can unfurl and roll away -You could also use rolls of tank tread, or chain, or attachment links.

I don’t think they can ban unlimited mat, unlimited rope, and unlimited chain, and unlimited tank tread… I guess if they do you just gotta have one of each.

Yea, I’m thinking folks will have systems that unfurl/unroll - which could be released by pneumatics.

I think it will be easier to observe if a team is over a tile than it is to observe if a team is touching a tile. Additionally, do we know anything regarding the legality of contacting your opponents zone at all or during the last 10? It would be a good challenge to deduct points for every Alliance Tile you are above at the end of the match to make strategic expansion that much more challenging and rewarding.
