2022 - 2023 VEX Robotics Competition - Spin Up

All you need to do is shoot 2 disks and spin the roller a bit, and hope your low level teammate can spin the roller. If you have an accurate disk shooter (flywheel, puncher, etc) and a simple roller, it should be fine since you get 2 preloads.

You could also make a system where the robot can launch preloads directly without moving. If you programmed your robot such that after the autonomous code is done it can accept preloads and fire them without leaving the preload ramp, you could shoot a lot of discs quickly.

Just curious because I am new to vrc, how many of you design in cad before building/prototyping?

I don’t, I feel it is a waste of time.

Can someone pin this globally? It was really hard to find in all of the clutter

It should be on their Vex Forum…

Cad can be a useful tool when you don’t have parts. I cad between seasons but hdon’t really during season.

I haven’t seen this brought up before, but a simple slanted bar (with anti-slip mat or something) would be able to turn the roller, depending on how high it is. All you would need to do is run into it, as you can tune the length of the bar

What happens in the end game? All I saw in the game reveal was the tiles. Did I miss something?

Can expand as far as you want and each tile touched is worth three

Correct me if I’m wrong, but when roll into it, to come out, won’t it unroll?

So we have…

Item Value Count Total
Roller with your color up 10 4 40
Disk/Pancake in High Goal 5 60 300
Disk/Pancake in Low Goal 1 60 60
Auton bonus ? 1 ?
Tile touched by a robot 3 36? 108
Total Available Points 556

( Also, of course, all tiles are available to both alliances.)

Some thoughts:

  • You could guarantee a win (if auton is worth less than 44) with only pancakes. 300 > 1/2 556
  • A disc cannot be scored in both a High Goal and a Low Goal.
  • Tiles could be a major player early in the game.
  • Rollers seem easy, so their point value probably comes from their ability to be removed.
  • I don’t know how much auton is worth.
  • If that double diagonal line is a don’t-cross-in-auton line, you’ll have to shoot cross-field.
Rate Spin Up (as we know it without the Manual) on a scale of 1 to 6.

Auton is worth 10 points, and 5 for tie.
And yes, the double line is an auton line like in Change Up

Knowing the game but not the rules needed for design be like - pain
Especially cuz there’s no VexU manual leek :flushed:

Understandable reasoning but yeah

Wall bot/bot that is really good at low goal

VEXU ≠ VRC smh

Not if it’s slanted
Imagine the right side is tilted upwards and you start at the top. You’ll end at the bottom of it and can just pull away with no repercussion. The only way it’d do that is if it’s not fixed and is being pulled by rubber bands or something of the sort

I could be completely wrong but it’s how I envisioned it

I can’t envision that, I suppose I will see what the rollers are like. I will keep the idea in mind though.

Im thinking that it would be cool if you couldn’t go under your own high goal.
This would 1) keep you from just reaching up and placing the discs in your goal
and 2) make sure you can’t clear the discs that you missed
I don’t know if we saw this in the reveal video but when the game manual is released we shall see

@Sidoti, any chance you could let us know how squishy the discs are? The video says foam, but that’s not much to go by.
Thanks.
