2026-27 VEX V5 Robotics Competition Game: Override

And with a drivetrain limit

Anyone else think the endgame is gonna become slightly irrelevant and teams are just gonna fight over the toggles? Parking stopped being as important in Push Back after last minute descores became more popular in matches. We could see a similar thing with override

Facts. They put a drive train limit and say “btw you push other bots”… bruh

Especially with the height limit.

Definetely would depend on where the stacks are, but yeah it could happen. (Stacks wouldn’t be in the middle if I had to guess.

I would argue not. It really doesn’t have many shared mechanics.

also, how on earth will they enforce limited expansion in the endgame?

Probably some kind of sensor.

Yeah, that will be a challenge, gonna have to be by eye. Some lift types like RD4B it would just mean the lift is all the way down.

you could also just make your robot be < 18" when fully folded, and only reach 18" when partially lifted. In this case, it can be pretty ambiguous whether you’re in-size or over by 0.5"

I’m pretty sure that you have to have the toggle flipped for ANY yellow pins, but I could be totally wrong :expressionless_face:, that’s what I got from the game Reveal

If you can’t get the toggle flipped, if you are touching it, it doesn’t count for anyone

I guess we just put laser beams mounted at 18 inches surrounding the “park” zone and if a robot breaks it goes off or something. I would about edge cases, as I believe any part of your robot needs to be in the 3d projection for the height limit to be there in the end game.

Come back when you have

That at most would tell you something is over 18", but HOW would you know what it is? Still seems heavily biased towards the discretion of a referee and something that will make their life difficult. I know how much the referees already struggled with goaltending and similar rules in push back.

I completely missed the fact that if a robot is touching the toggle it doesn’t count. Seems like a good last-ditch effort.

Traditionally the 18" plane is somewhat lax, so long as there’s nothing with “match affecting”

I believe the point of the max height limit for the middle zone king of the hill is to prevent excessive tipping and have a lower center of mass.

There may be an advantage in building a taller robot and omitting the center area, or perhaps scoring in the middle when you know the opponents cannot compact itself back down to 18"

Somebody probably asked this already, but why the 55 watt drivetrain limit?

Not sure why everyone is panicked over the 55w limit. This is not a case of “everyone named Bob can only use 55w in their drivetrains”. Everyone does. It’s a level playing field. It will force teams to get out of their “as fast/powerful as possible” mindset and require them to be more creative.

Are black aluminum standoffs from robosource legal for this season?
