If the reason why they said no spray paint in the first place is to ensure the parts are from Vex, aggressive sanding would likely remove any Vex watermarks at worst or make it incredibly hard to see at best.

The GDC in High Stakes banned painting/anodizing vex parts in mainland China only because manufacturers were making illegal c-channels using other metals/alloys and painted them to mask the contraband from inspectors. I can’t speak to how many teams were doing this in China, or how it provided such an overwhelming advantage that your c-channels are a teensy bit stronger, but the GDC has decided to just punish everyone for it now.

The GDC’s arguement here is even weaker than their license plate one, but the community has little to no say in how they dictate the rules.

Finally, the AI vision sensor-based aspect of the game is extremely financially hard for many clubs, and considering that the sensors rarely actually work, this part of the game just feels like a complete cash grab from Vex.

I completely agree with most of your points listed out (and share those grievances), but here is where I differ a bit. The GDC designs games a few years in advance, which means this game was probably designed during Over Under, which was just after Spin Up. The last true stacking game (I’m not counting Change Up) was Tower Takeover all the way back in 2020, so a true stacking game was a bit overdue. However, one of the next two seasons will probably be a shooting game.

Then why are you discussing it? If you don’t have knowledge in a topic, don’t try to take things into your own hands until you gain that knowledge. There are many teams out there that are being absolutely ransacked by this rule; many will have to order entire new supplies just to start a new legal robot. This is a bigger deal than you think.

Compared to the cost of VEX parts, a 3D printer actually isn’t that much. We bought a 3D printer for under $400, and I think VEX could maybe start selling a VEX 3D printer.

I have a question about scoring with yellow Pins in Override.

If a yellow Pin is placed inside an Alliance Goal (red or blue):

• Does it score automatically for that alliance?

• Or does it only count if the alliance controls the Toggle?

In other words, does the Toggle affect yellow Pin scoring in Alliance Goals, or does it only apply to Neutral Goals?

I’m, the initial author of this thread and the one asking for 3D Printing to be allowed 2021-2022. Lots of good points were brought up, but the bottom line is that the GDC is not going to move on this point. Something that is important is to realize that coaches / mentors / EP were vocal about the cost with this. Even with $200 printers, one mentor allowed they would need to buy at least 10 printers to keep up with the demand. So people are looking for long range decisions to make planning. …
