I want to know if I should stay with 4 inch because those are the only other ones I have.
I would stick with the 4-inch, while they are not the best they are definitely better than the 2-inch Omni wheels. In the future try to get 3.25 or 2.75-inch wheels as those are what most teams use.
2.75’’ or 2.00’'?
2.75’’ are most definitely useable; in fact, they have a lot of popular ratios such as 480 rpm or 600 rpm.
2.00’’ is undiscovered territory pretty much… and I myself wouldn’t use them for anything else other than odometry pods.
The arrangement of rollers makes me iffy on their “roundness” (and I still reserve doubts about the smoothness of a ride they provide. Even the gear ratios are spread far and wide, so either you’re stuck with really slow or really fast drivetrains.
All in all, if you have 2.75’’ omnis, use them. As for 2’’ omnis, you’re welcome to try, but I would recommend sticking to 4’’
ok i meant 2" omnis so i guess 4"s for me
You mean 2" not 2.75" right? Also do you have any issues with it?
We dont have any issues with it, and yes it is the 2 inch wheels, not 2.75.
Just curious but do you double stack them to decrease squishing into the foam on the field.
what gear ratio do you use? I’m curious about your design as there aren’t many other 2 inch omni users out there.
For the @Alex3D question, we run 8 mecanum 2 inch wheels, so we dont double stack but dont sink either.
For the @sixtonpotato question, we run 600rpm direct.
How does that work for strafing? Is there any friction due to the mecanum wheels’ rollers not intersecting at the same point?
The strafing is great, especially with the 5.5W motors allowing for 66w drive both holognomically and normally, and we set it up so that each pod has as its set of 2 wheels as close together as possible to try and negate any bad effects, which is working very well for us.
