Notebook Pain

This is to write out the mental pain of the notebook. Highlight the completely wrong section? Teammate didn’t let you know they have terrible handwriting and now you have an unreadable log that can 't be removed? All pain can be shown here, cuz other notebooks probably get it

This is a Chit-Chat / Rumor Mill discussion in my opinion. I would suggest you switch the category.

Forgetting what you did and now you have nothing to put in the notebook

Documentation should be authentic - no need to worry it looks wrong, all part of the process. In this case, learning what matters to document and what does not. New teams will document things that are not relevant - like what was eaten for snacks… ambitious teams will document every detail to the point that the big picture of the design and the process is lost (1 million lines of code does not equal Think Award …). So take a step back and find the balance. You want to make evident that your team has a design process and that you document it to show you adhered to it. As a judge if you say you determine a season plan and your documentation only shows that some person on the team did stuff without telling anyone the night before with no testing and you were shocked during interview with judges about results … attributing to so-called “bad luck”, you will be passed up to teams that have honed a design process and is authentic.

My advice to teams is to work as a team and document your journey. You will find many judges truly interested in your journey, even though you changed your design process along the way, it will be your teams process and it will be authentic.

Notebooker wouldn’t talk to me for a week after I wrote happy new year and drew a stick figure with a party that at the top on our first practice of the new year. But it won design at states, so I can’t complain.

Handed in notebook for virtual judging of tournament next Sunday, two days ago. Only 4 minutes left to spare .

Also, just today, my coach registered us for a pre-recorded skills league, with 1 minute to spare!!! What is this?!?! We’ll be in the seconds really soon!!!

Minor notebooker here
I have a teammate who always stands over me and messes with me by pointing out words that are spelled right and says they are wrong. Keep in mind, they’re a programmer/builder and doesn’t do notebook at all. Fun times.

When you have a really good notebook but the judges don’t give the notebook back. I wonder where it is.

There were a few new kids on my team and they didn’t know we had to show our notebook to our judges. And they wrote and drew some things that shouldn’t have been written/drawn.

Ever told your team that we need to be on top of the notebook, and everyone spends more time on the robot, to the point that you finally get it out of its plastic wrapping and start writing in it 2 weeks before your first competition?

goodness, I would’ve turned over a table if the judges didn’t give back our 400-page notebook last year, though that would only be the taste as the other notebooker would’ve done much much worse.

I haven’t updated my notebook since thanksgiving. I’m just praying that my coach dosen’t casually flip through it during a meeting.
