any team in Nevada aka 7870E, 9922Z, 945Z, and 64A
This is now Australia wide, we are from South Australia and will not be attending.
I agree, I do not know why Worldās proceeding is even a discussion anymore.
My coach (3589B) has a meeting either tonight or tomorrow, to determine our fate. He doesnāt expect us to be able to go though.
Our district in Colorado cancelled all out of state travel 2 days ago. Since then I have seen on the forums and the VEX World Coaches Facebook page that teams from all of the following states have reported the same thing. Some teams are even reporting cancelations or postponements of state tournaments. Connecticut, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, Maryland, Los Angeles, Georgia, Florida, New York, and us in Colorado. Not to mention all of the countries that canāt make it.
There has also been quite the discussion about students not getting sick from covid-19 so they will be fine. One of our students has a medical condition that parents and doctors cannot figure out. He has been in and out of school all year. So we have no idea what could happen to him should any of the rest of us be exposed. Itās not only the elderly we are concerned about but one of our own 12 year olds.
Stay safe. Stay smart. Stay healthy. Life goes on and in the end we are all teaching our students to be lifelong learners and engineers. Not just winning trophies and traveling to Louisville, Kentucky.
Just to clarify, only a few counties in the Atlanta area have banned out of state travel for Georgia teams. Just so happens that it captures about 1/3 of the highly competitive Georgia teams. As far as I know, 1961, 675, 109, 1356, 5203 are all still going.
No official ban from our district⦠but we are going to go ahead and request refunds for all of our teams just in case the REC has to cancel after the 16th which is the last day for refunds. We are going to put our teams on the wait list and still make plans on our side to attend and just register the teams right before the event. I feel with so many teams that are not able to attend that just putting yourself on the wait list will get you a spot to worlds. Elem teams 3701 and middle school teams 31337 from Alabama (5 teams total)
Thanks Drew1275A. Thatās why I said some teams. Itās unfortunate for sure. Your state lost 1/3 of the teams and we lost 4 of 5 teams for sure since we are all from the same school district.
as of today no change that we know about. Bakersfield is going on as usual for Middle School State. There are no cases of COVID-19 in Bakersfield.
Iād put hope on the wait list since Tennessee borders Kentucky. I too was devastated to hear that you guys couldnāt attend your state comp. Have your coach put your teams on the wait list. Teams are dropping like flies so thereās a very good chance that theyāll have to pull from the wait list quite a few times
restricting entry would be a fabulous way to get parent volunteersā¦
Are you still going to the US Open?
We are from Mississippi. There are no cases here, yet. My team isnāt going to live in fear. As long as Worlds is still happening, my team will be going. We arenāt affiliated with a school district so the decision will be up to the parents. We already booked a non-refundable house in Louisville. I feel bad for the teams who can not attend. It is an unfortunate situation.
i have spoken with my coach about that. we are indeed registered for the wait list as REC has told us to register after speaking with them. iām not sure if i can disclose some particular information on here but it is likely that we will be allocated worlds spots.
as far as we are aware of: yes we are. however, we (students as well as parents) went to the official school board session to hear the explanations of why we could not attend our state championship although the event was cleared (supposedly) by CDC. with williamson county being the first tennessee case, but the williamson county teams were attending, our district found it safer to take the best measure that we do not attend the event to prevent the spread. basically in short, if a county closes due to covid-19, our school will not allow us to attend the event and will personally refund us/give compensations.
My school has banned travel and out of school activities affiliated with the school which has stopped many teams from out school to go to events other than robotics, but my team will still likely be attending as we are a independent team.
Only a handful of MN teams are putting bans on travel. Most teams are either still in meetings, trying to plan their course of action, or are still planning on going.
All of Hawaii will no longer be attending due to the State Government banning out-of-state travel.
Interested to know what INTERNATIONAL teams can or are attending worlds?
New Zealand - One ES team will be attending. Havenāt had contact with the MS teams yet.
