2021-2022 VEX IQ Challenge: Pitching In

Ah, sweet. Thanks. Now I don’t have to make that annoying expandable hopper

Just to clarify, are one-person teams allowed this year? I’m sorry if this question has already been answered.

Yes, but you can only drive for 35 seconds.

Sad. I might be a one-person team again this year. :frowning:

just grab someone who can drive lel

Honestly with good teams this year, you could probably get away with only driving half the match and still walking away with a perfect score

Yeah, but they will have to work hard. (I hope there’s somebody. Most of the people during class fling each other with rubber bands and look at memes. Definitely not me. :smirk:)

@anonymouse, collect balls for the first 30 sec. Then align the robot and push the button to start the program. It will slowly raise the bucket and dump them all like 185A did:

Then it could even try to high hang as a bonus.

The song at the end: “My life’s okay.”

Robot: My life’s not okay rn.

Thanks for the idea. The height limit probably won’t work with that though. Thanks anyway!

Yeah, you can’t just dump them into the high goal because that would go over the height limit (the goal is 20.5 inches high and the height limit is 19 inches)

I see, but can you still collect the balls in driver and then catapult them into the bucket, few at a time, with autonomous program?

So maybe something like those big bulky Bank Shot bots?

2016 VEXIQ Middle School Championship Match - YouTube (the big robot with the intake is the one I’m talking about)

Possibly, but they’re big and bulky as you said, so they most likely wouldn’t fit under the bars to navigate the field. You might have to pick up all the balls on one side of the field, shoot them, then reset to the other side and repeat. That would be difficult to do in 35 seconds.

8059A NBN robot is nicely low profile and you can keep a lot of balls in the long intakes. 8059 students build excellent catapults.

Does anyone have any info on the kind of launcher the big bank shot bot used?

You might have a referee, especially at a local event that doesn’t use only certified referees, who tells you this is not legal but cannot cite any specific rule in the game manual. If you decide to use this strategy during gameplay, this is one time I would be ok with posting the RTM question in the official Q&A so you’ll be able to print the official “it’s legal” answer to show the referee.

I thought the Q&A was supposed to open up yesterday. Anyone have any insight on this?
