Ohio high school is craked out of their minds

- SkillsUSA has entered the chat -

In the high school level, it is actually pretty even as to who the medalists are in nationals. California sticks out a bit, especially Warren high school (though they slacked off at regionals this year and didn’t get to states :frowning: ), along with Texas.

don’t forget 502w

oh yeah i watched the reveal from singnats

really solid org, sad to hear you guys aren’t coming to worlds

oh yeah TN is definitely up there. brentwood is a solid org

229 is definitely elite, but one good team does not a good region make. i’ve never heard of drumroll, do you have a video of their matches or something?

i feel like florida definitely isn’t as strong as some other regions. last year there were two good teams (jelly and ace), and this year there’s one

sorry :sob: i’m new to the forum

Nebraska mentioned?? We do have 3141V, 5069Z, 1028A/Z, 1064B, 5155A/E. We aren’t a huge signature state but the competition level in NE has exploded in this last year or two.

I think splitting would be an amazing idea!

Id probably have to say that the ā€œbestā€ regions would just be the ones that you see most on socials. When it comes to that Indiana would be first in that and competition(simply the best region). Then it really just goes down a popularity contest.

From what tournaments I’ve watched, I’d say Ohio is an extremely good contender(launch sig went crazy). It’s impressive how consistently teams are at least good there. Id say Tennessee is up there as well, with most of the teams being better than the average team.

When it comes to regions like Wisconsin we only have a few good teams, with most of the others being just okay or underdeveloped. I say most regions fit into the latter category with only a few really good teams.

We have also seen most of the game improvements coming from primarily certain alliances. Like Fight-Club, WNA, and Broth. Their teams have been cooking with new hang mechs and improved game strategy.

Honestly, the ā€œbestā€ region or team or organisation has always been a recurring topic for discussions.

The below are just some links by doing a quick search in the forum.

Best Region - Chit-Chat / Rumor Mill - VEX Forum

Best Organizations by Region (VRC) - Chit-Chat / Rumor Mill - VEX Forum

And one common issue by raised is - what’s the definition of ā€œbestā€ ?
And even if we managed to iron out the definition, then the next question will be is there an objective way to measure this ā€œdefinitionā€ ?

Else, all these discussions are just personal opinion and will lead us to no where.

I would say whichever region consistently gets the most teams into elimination rounds and/or the most awards for signature events and worlds.

Yes, there are a lot of topics on this, but sadly they belong to the extinct lamented category of chit-chat.

it is still not a fair assessment - regions with more teams will naturally have a bigger possibility of getting teams into eliminations and/or awards during worlds?

and also i still see SE as a luxury that not all teams will have the same access too.

I don’t have any answer to this - but just want to highlight the trickiness of setting a fair ā€œdefinitionā€ that will work for all.

that was because in previous years, we were told to use that category for all these random discussions :stuck_out_tongue:

Def Utah (not biased)

Why no Virginia? One of the teams on the alliance that lost finals last year at worlds (12H) is from Virginia.

regions with more teams will naturally have a bigger possibility of getting teams into eliminations and/or awards during worlds?

I agree with this, but perhaps looking at proportions can be a middle ground. Of course, with small samples from individual regions, ~10 teams probably isn’t enough to gauge the real strength of a region, but it’s better than strict quantity.

Skills perhaps is a better metric, but not every team runs skills, and especially this year, bots which may be strong in matches may not be as good in skills, or vice versa - last year had a higher correlation between skills and match.

I’d disagree with this take this year (except for the fact that the VEX U teams are quite good) as while those high school teams are all good, other states have much better teams, and sure, last year 5062X and 4082B were among the best teams in the world, neither of them won their divisions at worlds last year.

Indiana at 4 is a crime

totally oklahoma just look at how good the pushbots are
